Coordinates: 25°19′N 85°17′E / 25.32, 85.28 Hilsa is a city and a notified area in Nalanda district in the Indian state of Bihar.It is situated between islampur and patna.It is connected directly to capital of India Delhiby a superfast train Magadh express.Apart from this it is also connected to capital of Bihar Patna by two other passenger trains named as Danapur Islampur passenger and Buxer Islampur passenger (populerly known as Samdhinia) .It is also connected to patna by a nice road.It is surrounded by green lands.It is a centre of education in that region .There is one government college S.U.college, Hilsa and two other private colleges namely Sardar Patel college and Mahanth Mahavidyalaya in Hilsa certified from Magadh University, Gaya.There is also Four government high schools(Ram Babu high school, High school yogipur gosainpur, May high school ,may,hilsa and Ramchandra Gupta kanya uchha vidyalaya ,hilsa) and a number of private high schools .

Hilsa is located at 25.32° N 85.28° E.[1] It has an average elevation of 45 metres (147 feet). The biggest problem of this area is poor electricity supply

As of 2001 India census,[2] Hilsa had a population of 37,748. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Hilsa has an average literacy rate of 57%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 66%, and female literacy is 46%. In Hilsa, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.
