[edit] History
The first school opened in the newly-built western section of the Southgate neighbourhood was the Southgate West County First School opening in 1969, offering education for young children in the neighbourhood. Work had already begun on the adjoining school, Southgate West County Middle School, which opened in the same building in 1970.[1]
The two schools ran as separate entities, feeding into Thomas Bennett Community College until 2004. However, the change of age of transfer in Crawley in 2004 led to the schools both being closed. The new Hilltop Primary School opened on the site, with a headteacher taking responsibility for the full range of primary-aged pupils.[2]
[edit] School Site
The school has is housed in a largely pre-fabricated building constructed in the late 1960s, with two large halls, and extended arms housing classrooms with shared working areas.
