Hillcrest School (Downers Grove, IL)

Hillcrest Elementary School is an elementary school in Downers Grove, Illinois. It is a member of Downers Grove School District 58. The school gets its name from Hillcrest Road, which runs along the school.

The school was opened on February 18, 1952 to accommodate increased population of school children, relieving overcrowding in other local schools, during the Baby Boom. When it was first opened, the playground was muddy due to a lack of blacktop. The only equipment was a few swings, a sandbox, and one or two teeter totters. The school property was bordered by farms on the south and west. Now, Hillcrest has a playground consisting of many slides, and swings, a computer lab, a library, and a gym.[citation needed]
