"Ben Marmont of the graduating Class of 2008, who is ranked 27th in the nation for his age group, leads the chess team.[1] He is followed shortly by senior Nate Cromer (uscf 1944 rating). Under their leadership, Highland won the 2005 AIA State Individual Chess Championship last year.[citation needed] The team scored a notable victory over rival Gilbert High School in the 2006-2007 school year in the Alhambra Invitational, marking the first time in many years that Highland has been able to beat Gilbert in chess.[citation needed]"
