Highland Township covers an area of 32.77 square miles (84.87 square kilometers); of this, 0.32 square miles (0.83 square kilometers) or 0.98 percent is water. The streams of Camp Creek, Clark Creek, Dead Horse Branch, Goose Creek, Jim Creek and Kelly Branch run through this township.
