Highland Springs High School is a high school located at 15 South Oak Avenue in Highland Springs, Virginia and is among the oldest schools in Henrico County. It is part of Henrico County Public Schools.

The class of 2006 was the school's 100th Commencement Service.

Highland Springs's colors are Black and Gold and White and the school mascot is the Springer.

Highland Springs participates in VHSL AAA level athletic competition with district rivals such as Varina High School and Henrico High School.

[edit] The Marching Battalion

The Highland Springs high School Marching Battalion is one of the best bands in Henrico County. They have won many national championships throughout the years, including the first National High School High Stepping Marching Band Championship in 2002, and also placing in many competitions, such as: Halifax County High School Band Day, Fish Bowl Parade, and Norfolk Band Day. The current Director of Bands is Mr. Davon Yonkers.

HSHS is home to many athletic teams/sports including baseball,cross country, wrestling, indoor and outdoor track teams, soccer, volleyball, soft ball,cheerleading, basketball, football, dance team, a step team, and a women's tennis team. HSHS often has one of the best football teams in the Capital District. The school's rivals are Varina and Henrico high schools, with Godwin considered to be the rival from the West End of the county. The 2007 Boys Basketball team became the VHSL AAA State Championship. The Springers football team had an undefeated regular season in 2007 and earned the Capital District championship.

For 20 years the MCJROTC Springer Battalion has been training young men and women to be better citizens in their communities. Cadets in MCJROTC can participate in many events throughout the year. There is an award wining Drill team, Color Guard, and Rifle Team. The team also participates in community service throughout the year. The instructors are MGySgt. Flloyd Gladden and MSgt. Adrian Bryant.It is a wonderful program.

The renovation process started in 2006 and is expected to be completed in August 2008. The renovation plans are modernizing the current building. Under the renovations the windows, floors, walls, electrical, and heating and air will be replaced, and a new wing is being constructed for the English department. The main office will also get a face lift, moving it to the front of the building, making it safe for students and teachers.

[edit] 100th Year Annivesary

The 2008 year will mark HSHS 100th year anniversary. HSHS first opened in 1907 and has gone through many expansions and changes. The school will have many events and activities thoughtout the year celebrating this special milestone.
