"High Tider" is a nickname for a native of the rural eastern coast region of the U.S. state of North Carolina, specifically in eastern Carteret County from several small townships such as Atlantic, Sea Level, Davis, Stacy, Otway, Lola, Cedar Island and Harkers Island (though it is more specific to the locations not on islands).
The term originates from an old colloquial jargon phrase that reflects the story told by an old fisherman: "High tide, can't fish, gotta eat mash potatoes."
