High Sheriff of the East Riding of Yorkshire

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The High Sheriff of the East Riding of Yorkshire is a current High Sheriff title which has existed since 1996.[1] Traditionally the entire area of Yorkshire was covered by the High Sheriff of Yorkshire, but after the controversial Local Government Act 1972 the commission decided to switch the 1000 year old title to smaller covered areas. This included Humberside and the High Sheriff of Humberside, which geographically covered the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.[1] Because Humberside was so unpopular to the people who lived there, the government cancelled it in 1996 as well as its sheriff title, so the current High Sheriff of the East Riding of Yorkshire title was created.[1] Below is a list of the sheriffs.[1]
