High Places

High Places is a musical group from Brooklyn. The band is a duo comprising multi-instrumentalist Rob Barber and vocalist Mary Pearson.

Rob is from Philadelphia. Mary is from Kalamazoo. After opening for Japanther at a Michigan show Mary visited Brooklyn for two days and met Rob, who was teaching printmaking at the Pratt Institute. In 2006 she moved to Brooklyn and the band was formed. [1]
After playing some shows for Todd P in Brooklyn the band embarked on their first tour.[1]
Having received a fair amount of online acclaim, [2] in January 2008 the band was one of just two selected by eMusic to inaugurate its new eMusic Selects feature to promote particularly noteworthy unsigned or underrepresented artists. [3]
In May 2008 it was announced that the band had signed with Chicago independent label Thrill Jockey for the release of their debut full-length album due September 23 2008. [4]
In June 2008 the band embarked on their first European tour.[4]
