High Altitude Observatory

The High Altitude Observatory (HAO) conducts research on solar and heliospheric physics, and the effects of solar variability on the Earth's magnetosphere, ionosphere, and upper atmosphere for the United States.[1]

It is a division within the Earth and Sun Systems Laboratory (ESSL) at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). NCAR is managed by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) and receives substantial funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF).[1]
