Many high school students are searching for research programs. Some research programs are short, and give a gentle introduction to science and how it is carried out. Other research programs are long, and give the student a complete introduction which includes the publication of articles and generation of real scientific knowledge. Both kinds of programs are valuable, and serve to help young people understand how a career in science works. Few independent programs exist for high school research, but many research programs exist at universities.
