Hidayat Khan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hidayat Khan (born 1975) is an Indian sitar player, the youngest son of classical great Vilayat Khan (1928–2004).

His father was one of India's most famous classical players, and Hidayat was born into the tradition of the Imdadkhani or Etawah Gharana (school), named after Hidayat's great grandfather or the village outside Agra where he lived. Throughout Hidayat's childhood, however, his father taught him as a singer, but at 14, formal sitar training in the family style began. He is a great artist and teaches Hindustani vocal as well as Sitar.

As of 2005, Hidayat has not recorded any solo work (he has worked on film scores, the most notable being for Mira Nair's Kama Sutra), but tours all over the world. He is also teaching sitar to his students in NJ Hidayat khan has recorded a few solo albums after 2005. In 2006 he released his first cross over album, Ziver (Music Today). Ziver has been rated #1 in the charts in India.[citation needed]
