Hida, Gifu
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hida (飛騨市 Hida-shi?) is a city in Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
[edit] History
The city was established in 2004 by merger of Furukawa, Miyagawa, Kawai, and Kamioka.
[edit] About the official name
Hida's official name in Kanji is "飛驒" not "飛騨" but the JIS Kanji font cannot display any old Japanese kanji forms (i.e. 單, the old Japanese form of 単). Even after the creation of the city of Hida, the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has allowed Hida to use the current kanji format.
