HID Global is a major manufacturer of contactless access control cards and other security devices. Its headquarters are in Irvine, California with regional offices in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Their European operations are based in Haverhill, England, with regional offices in France, Germany, and the Netherlands. Hong Kong is their base for operations in Asia and the Pacific region with offices in India,China, Korea, Singapore, Australia, and Tokyo. HID's research and development center is located in Denver, Colorado.
HID was founded as Hughes Identification Devices, a division of Hughes Aircraft, but changed names in 1995 when it became a subsidiary of Palomar Technological Companies. It has since been acquired by Assa Abloy. In August 2006, HID acquired Eden Prairie, Minnesota based Fargo Electronics.
Variations of the contactless access control cards range into tags, key fobs and embeddable transponders, all trackable with HID's software and device readers.
