heute (news show)

heute (German for today) is a news show on the German television channel ZDF. The main show is broadcast at 7PM, consisting of news of the day, weather forecasts and sports.

News broadcasts were made from the day the ZDF went operational, the name heute was decided upon by February 8, 1963.
heute was originally broadcast from 7:30 to 8 PM; on February 1, 1965 the show was split up into two parts - heute (7:30 to 7:45 PM) and themen des tages (7:45 to 8 PM). From January 1, 1969 the themen des tages was dropped to let the evening programs start earlier.
In 1973, the program moved to 7 PM, where it is still seen today.

The main show is seen at 7PM and usually has a length of 20 minutes (including weather forecast).
Around 9:45PM, a longer, in-depth show called heute-journal is broadcast, similar to Tagesthemen on Das Erste.

Since the 1970s' heute's title tune contains the letters h-e-u-t-e in morse code.
