Josh, your work on the optional parameter taxobox was fantastic, and greatly appreciated. Unfortunately it was completely failing at Jarrah and Banksia. I fixed this problem, but my fix resulted in many taxoboxes showing ugly whitespace. Another user fixed the ugly whitespace problem, but their fix once more destroyed the taxoboxes at Jarrah and Banksia. I have reverted to the ugly whitespace version. What we really need is a taxobox genius like yourself to find a way of fixing both problems at once. Any interest? Hesperian 06:07, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

Ok, I've found the problem. Wikitables handle whitespace very poorly; basically there needs to be an extra line in each row template, and I've added those in the form of blank comments. It should work now. Thanks, Josh

I had just emailed the editor of the darlington review and given the locations of arts on darlington,wa, darlington review, darlington hall, etc - and thought (while outside of my a/c) I should clean up my page, just in case she wanted to 'probe'. anyway anyone with nouse could google the vc name and find my yahoo identity anyway, and then the white pages online - and da da! I didnt want to be seen advertising the arts I had created. diplomacy, guile or tact? etc. So thanks, I appreciate your effort, you're a good wiki mate, I still feel v bad about the way I started though.vcxlor 07:16, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

Interesting point, not one of the massive 79 publications had an index. Academically speaking, - 250% for guile for not employing an indexer! It makes the big tomes relatively difficult to navigate. Interesting gallops government did not have any apparent publishing project for the more recent celebraion (175th or something)

I have as a project the 1929 centenary as a book ( If I live long enough) as a relative was here in Perth in that year and I do have access to materials to do with that year.

When I was doing part of a project some 10 years ago, I came acoss Connerton's 'How Societies Remember' but never sufficiently digested it due to time pressures. Possibly a wiki project would be the whole thing of 50, 100, 125, 150 and 175 celebrations in particular environments (usually institutions who have enough money to do so) whether national, state or otherwise. God what a waste of wiki space they need a larger heading and then they can go for it. In Tassie (and there is an article about it) we on the west coast were more oriented to Melbourne than Hobart (even in the late 20th C) and Hobart and Lonnie were endlessly at it, and then the issue of 'The Mainlanders', god it could go forever! as for the regional rivalries even here in wa. my theories on big brother john forrest and how he played off the regions, is another story again. keep up the good work!vcxlor 03:45, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

First, I must apologise for monopolising your talk page. Next, Swan View Tunnel - see there's a typical example, I feel very awkward about an article like that: you may feel that way about 6 hungry families - stannage may well have identified the six with their mansions on the south side of adelaide terrace sufficiently to be confident that these were the guys, but my sense of fluidity is the marriage politics. look for eg viz a vis our mate Forrest, he married in. my now ex neighbour who was a barrett lennard with connections by marriage to most of the hungry 6 is a good example. But hell leave it to the genealogists, it'd drive even a computer program to incinerate itself to untangle the web of what I allude to in fluidity - the gene pool for that lot must have really brought about 6 fingers or toes somewhere along!!vcxlor 15:05, 21 November 2005 (UTC)

Drew, sorry for not answering your post re Intercolonial cricket from the other day. I missed it somehow. According to cricketarchive.com, an "RE Bush" umpired in the intercolonial played between WA and Victoria in April 1893 at the MCG [1]. (WA had actually played an earlier match against South Australia at Adelaide Oval in March 1893 [2]. That was the 1st Intercolonial played by Western Australia. The MCG match was the 2nd).

And also according to cricketarchive, "Robert Edwin Bush" (linked to from your article) played in a number of 1st class matches in England between 1874 and 1877, but none in Australia, and no umpiring records are shown. Cricketarchive doesn't acknowledge they're the same person, but I think it's a reasonable guess that they are.

To muddle things further, Wisden's www.cricinfo.com says that in that April 1893 match at the MCG, the umpires were "HJ Alessio and RE Bush", and "ED Heather deputised as RE Bush" [3].

So on balance, it certainly appears that it's wrong to say Bush "played in the first ever...". I think it's therefore best to delete the sentence entirely. I'll do that, but feel free to revert if you disagree.

And yes, I'm looking forward to a good Test for a change, if nothing more than to steel the Aussies for next year's Ashes series.

I've just been reading a bit about Robert and found out his brother James Arthur Bush is an interesting character also. He played international rugby for England and was W.G. Grace's friend and was best man at WG's wedding.[4]

I deleted the article in accordance with Wikipedia policy, which approves deletion of "an article about a real person that does not assert that person's importance or significance." The content of the article

Categories

Hi Hamedog,

There is a Wikipedia guideline that says we only put articles in their most specific categories; that is, an article should not be in both a category and one of its sub-categories. In the case of Category:Public Schools Association, this was in Category:Private schools in Western Australia, Category:Schools in Western Australia, Category:Education in Western Australia and Category:Education, even though the first is a subcategory of the second, which is a subcategory of the third, which is a subcategory of the fourth. You also had Category:Public Schools Association listed as a subcategory of itself, which I'm sure I don't need to convince you is inappropriate.

Once you have created Category:Public Schools Association, article Public Schools Association doesn't need to be in any other category, because any other category that the article should be in the category should be in too.

As for templates, putting a template in a category will put every article to which the template is added into that category too. So one must be very careful. For example, you put Template:Public Schools Association in Category:Associations of Schools, which would seem to make sense, except that as soon as you put the template into Hale School, Hale School then ends up in Category:Associations of Schools, which is obviously incorrect.

I don't really have a strong opinion on the name of the article. As you probably know Aboriginal words don't really have a standard english spelling. Although I do dislike wikipedia using google to sort out issues I've just done a check and Noongar returns over 53 thousand entries whereas Nyungar only returns about 20 thousand. If that is the qualifier then I'd leave it alone, sorry for not being more definitive but my instinct is to leave it as is. What was the driver to change it?

Sorry. I didnt realise you couldnt have a magic button for this one !  :) . I am sure that Sir John would have been a better thing for the fat one. (Irrevently he and PBX of Surakarta are contemporaneous and as rotund as each other but PBX had vast number of progeny...) I was taking issue of a listing that omitted Sir as part of the title within wikipedia. But if it was as you say a laborious process, I'll leave you be.
