[edit] Greetings
From the nether world of the long lonely at times insanely absurd hike through Australian categories - I have finally got to the point where I have decided that I should remove unsigned (probably never any use to the category or the average user) comments that appear on some - however before I implement this early may resolution I thought I would pass it by fellow eds albeit admins as to whether I should do so - or should I just leave them. If pressed I could give egs - but the process - of seeing stupid questions or statement with no sigs on the category page - and no sign that there ever will be a followup - seems to invite reverting so as to cleanup the catgory page - and boo hoo to the editors who expected that anyone wouild ever respond to something on the cat page in the first place. any thoughts on this would be appreciated, cheers SatuSuro 01:29, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for that am away from computer most of today will think through another question or two about all this as well - but thanks! SatuSuro 02:05, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Have decided (it will slow things down) to treat each case as I meet it and identify it. Have dropped the impatient deletion idea. The stats (I havent kept a count) are such that I would guess 10% have stupid things on them - I'll take my time with them instead. Oh well so much for a haircut, and what a few other mundane things can do SatuSuro 09:38, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

I really like that B&W photo on your user page - it's very striking. Your archive list is getting longer than your talk page. —Moondyne 13:56, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

- Great. Is there much on Harry Boan in your Biographical Register of Members of the Parliament of Western Australia? I probably have enough on him to make a start (ADB for one), but you always seem to turn up some treasures. —Moondyne 12:34, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks. There was no need to have retyped it all, a scan would have done. But very much appreciated. And nice work on the BG article. Cheers.
- PS: should it be a "1931 Exhibition Scholarship"? —Moondyne 02:23, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- After a little on-line research, I've started an article on the 1851 Exhibition Scholarship and linked to that--Melburnian 06:04, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thank You and sorry
I would like to apologise for uploading the images that i did. I was not aware of the fair use policy and not 100% familiar with the image policy, and i will be reading more about it before uploading any further images. Secondly i would like to thank you for your handling of the Gherkin30 situation i agree that it was just a silly spat and Gherkin30 was just inappropriately escalating the issue for no reason.
I thought your comments (on his talk page) were civil, to say the least.
thanks again and i am sorry for the inconvenience.

[edit] Unprotection
Thanks for the unprotection Hesperian. I'm hoping you might be able to advise on Australian federal election, 2007... for the SA and federal election pages, I have a navigation bar at the top for the previous, current, and next election links. SA 2006 has "< 1997 2002 2006"... I want to add "< 2001 2004 2007" to the 2007 fed page but can't figure out how to do it due to the way the template was designed... suggestions? [edit] Copyright Problem Maybe?
An editor just raised a possible problem i might have with some of the images i used on Template:PSA Portal - all of the schools logo's - i have bugger all idea with copyright (as with much else) - can you guide me as to whether this is a copyright vio? Thnx Twenty Years 09:39, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Austin Mast
Thanks for the message about Austin Mast. Actually, I did not really suspect vanity in this case; it's simply a case where I felt that notability wasn't sufficiently established yet in the article (though I had a suspicion that he was in fact notable enough). In the three sentence version of the article (when I tagged it), notability wasn't at all obvious, so I just thought it needed to be fleshed out a bit more. Dsreyn 13:07, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Eucalyptus argutifolia (Wabling Hill mallee)
Just keyed up a better stub for Wilbinga, Western Australia (just beyond Two Rocks) and found there's a type of mallee named after the local land feature which seems to be endemic to the area. Any good ideas for places to look for more info about it? Orderinchaos 12:11, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
- I might have a try at it myself for a challenge and then if I can't do it or only get so far, I might leave it to the experts :) I've located a journal article at the Battye that seems to be a primary source on it and I'm at the Battye tomorrow for unrelated reasons so may see if I can get a copy. Orderinchaos 12:38, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
- That would be great re the two Kennington ones :) As for Battye, yeah, it's a single stack request and about 40c, so I might as well do it there. Orderinchaos 12:54, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Hesp, Just trying to save the popular Salad Fingers from the deletionists wrath.I must admit Im a bit over editing after Mark Jeffrey and Thematic Interpretation were both wiped (See my contribs perhaps you can reserect em). Plus moving and stuff. Leaving WA end of July to run a pub in the UK. Best of luck to you WA guysGhostieguide 08:35, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Hesperian, I should have sought you help earlier. I dont have a copy of my Thematic Interpretation article it got Deleted and redirecred by an admin as vanity before i finished adding refs its about guiding technique when presenting tours http://www.tourismtasmania.com.au/tasind/thematic/thematic.htm http://www.buseco.monash.edu.au/units/tru/publications/pubs_ham.php
It was a genuine article on an interesting subject fundamental to interpretive tourism I studied it to become a guide. if you can get the article back I am happy to work on it in a sandbox until its good enough to be allowed to be a stub. Ghostieguide 13:16, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Thinking
about putting The Western Australian flora: a descriptive catalogue as a see also in the eco region arts as well as chapman did work with the early IBRA and the Thackway and creswel work as well - reckon thats ok? SatuSuro 07:13, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- If you read chapmans intro you might think otherwise (somehow I have 3 copies of the thing its going cheap via wildflowers and associated groups) - however I'll leave it for the moment. cheers SatuSuro 07:18, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry - the WA flora article mentioned above has a link to a pdf of alexs intro -SatuSuro 07:20, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- No probs at all - I have had the brilliant opportunity to both uncover some of my book collections and the increased access to state ref library due to my tee level son wanting to use the alexander library building as base for his studies at the moment (hence my totally stretched multiple threads and resources are now beyond hope as I joined the vet sci project - as I am also uncovering my fathers vet texts and notes from the 1930's... ) so I figured if I could populate stubs with what I perceived as a further pieces of the jigsaw in the evolution of the ideas of ecological regions... but remain open to suggestion or correction as I flounder in the field of too many threads and ideas (once again ) SatuSuro 12:08, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] V. thapsus
I've done the big part of the work, and it's at User:Circeus/Verbascum, any comments/suggestion? I'm sill waiting for the German refs that User:Djlayton4 said would look up for me, but this is the gist of it (I'll move the hybrid list to a table and link to a few synonym lists). The Linnean typification project says that V. x thaspi is a nomen ambiguum, but I couldn'tfind anything about it (and several actual uses of it). Any idea what I should do with it? Circeus 20:52, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- I ended up mentioning it with a "possible nomen ambiguum" note. Also, I've thought of a reasonable way I can get a distribution map.Circeus 00:29, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Hesperian, you've been busy - my watchlist has lit up like a Christmas tree - that will teach me to to meddle with your state's flora ;) BTW, I like your new-look user page - very Beatlesesque.--Melburnian 06:45, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New art
would appreciate if you could give a once over of the new western mail art I started, ta SatuSuro 13:51, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- There are actually now 2 - new arts - the Western Mail (I kept getting offended by the welsh newspaper and nothing at our end) and the Sesqui books (Moondyne has moved it out of the qualifier)
whoich is missing the campbell sharman politics edition - nothing to write home about - but links from both could be an industry alone (the way 79 books authors -most are dead and need arts/links if they have em) - oh just a btw - filled the barlow chambers art with refs - reckon there are a few derivative arts due from that was well.. sigh a morning on and gotta get off soon SatuSuro 04:37, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Salsola kali
Hi. I just noticed that you've redirected Salsola kali to Salsola tragus. They are different species according to the integrated taxonomic information service. The taxonomic serial number for Salsola kali is 20655 . The taxonomic serial number for Salsola tragus is 520950. Perhaps the confusion occurs because some subspecies of Salsola tragus have been misidentified as subspecies of Salsola kali. Presuming I'm correct about this, could you fix this up, please?EAS 18:39, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. The Australian Plant Names Index contains a simplified output service[1] and a full output service.[2] The simplified output service states that Salsola kali is now Salsola tragus. But the process by which it extracts simplified output must be flawed, as the full output merely states that Salsola kali was misapplied to Salsola tragus in the Australian Plant Census.[3] I don't have time to tackle it right now, but I'll sort it out tonight or tomorrow at the latest. Thanks for letting me know. Hesperian 02:04, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
-
-
- Okay, that's fixed. I didn't actually redirect S. kali to S. tragus previously - I moved the S. kali article to S. tragus, and the redirect was created automatically. I have now moved the article back to its original location at S. kali, and deleted the redirect from S. tragus. This means we no longer have an article on S. tragus, but that is better than having an article full of incorrect information predicated on the notion that it is the same plant as S. kali. [edit] Why?
I'm sorry but i seem to understand what your problem is, I alerted you to a possible sock puppet, which apparently sockpuppetry is such a bad thing on wikipedia. So why do you then block the IP address, i haven't done anything wrong, in fact i did a good thing.
What is your problem?
[edit] Wait
I am sure that you can understand why i would be reluctant to re-start contributing as when i did before, i was threatened with potentially being blocked.
And when I was trying to clear up the manner and trying to understand what was meant by various comments,
i was threatened again without actually doing anything wrong because it was believed that I was, trying to re-ignite the fire, so to speak.
I was not aware that i had violated the conditions of my "Second Chance" - As put by the user Moondyne
Because ->
I was not attempting to post potentially libellous material
And as far as i could tell, i was not flaunting Wikipedia policies
Unless by some bizarre coincedence they happen to involve the messaging of Wikipedia users/administrators when trying to understand cartain issues
Such as what i had done wrong
And the only reason that i have not been contributing is because
1. I am currently in the middle of studying for my Yr 12 exams. Because i want to study engineering at university and unfortunately i need more than a pass mark.
And 2. Because, as you will see, i started an entry entitled AMPFEST about an annual youth-initiated Battle of the Bands with which i am involved and have been collaborating information and trying to attain permission from the people involved so that i would be able to provide an accurate and LEGALLLY sound entry.
But from my perspective, this is just a big misunderstanding because of my initial post on the scotch page, which in heinsight was probably inappropriate due to the whole thing that wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and that my attempts to verify what i had done wrong were misinterpreted as hostile remarks
Because I was actually involved in the whole Strippergate story and have heard both sides and was wondering if anyone else had heard the same side as me, though i unfortunately tried to reinforce my querie by providing what i thought to be the relevent information, unfortunately for me, it was quite one-sided and opinionated
So for that i do apologise--Willkca 08:38, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
-- And the only other thing that I wish to add is that if you block me, the only think that you will accomplish, is to justify that you would rather abuse your power as an administrator than to hear both sides of the story--Willkca 08:41, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The billion sister-project-template problem
Yeah, as the sister projects develop, there's going to be a need for a better way of organizing those: perhaps something like how it looks on the bottom of the Main Page. That would take some serious reworking though, I suspect. If you decide to start up a policy/tech discussion about it somewhere, please let me know... because it's a better sooner than later sort of issue (all of the other projects are going through rapid growth lately). --SB_Johnny|talk|books 09:57, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
