[edit] Java SE Update 3

Update 3 is out as far as I can tell. Go take a look over at java.sun.com. Unless I'm missing something simple, I'll put back my edit. Advice on why this might be incorrect would be appreciated. Thanks, AnarchyElmo 23:52, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Be More Neutral

In future, try to be more neutral when creating a disambiguation page by redirecting the original page to the disambiguation page. Circumventing the disambiguation page using redirects makes life difficult for people who want to reach the disambiguation page, especially those using dialup, and makes it impossible for people who are unaware of what a disambiguation page is to find what they are looking for. --Badharlick 17:18, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry for that (I think it was in the Aes Dana page), but I didn't know how to change the redirect to the disambiguation page rather than the Aes Dana (band) page at that time. Hervegirod 22:18, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:VorkreistLogo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:VorkreistLogo.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 00:08, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] JFAC

Hi, I was wondering if it was alright for me to help edit the JFAC page in your user space - I have contacted the guy who suggested creating it here, asking what needs to be done before it can be added to its own page - here - I believe together we could improve the article so it is properly created. Thanks, AsicsTalk 12:05, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

  • I've edited the page adding extra info etc. and now I have requested the real page to be unprotected. I hope everything is alright on the new edit, all the information is factual including a few tiny errors I found, most info was found on the metal archives website. AsicsTalk 19:31, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Good work !! I added a link to MTV website mentioning their last tour and their next album. Hope it will help. Hervegirod 14:18, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lyapunov

Hello. I am minded to replace the article Alexander Liapounov, that you created, by a redirect to Aleksandr Lyapunov. which has a far more complete treatment. However, before I do so, I want to ask you for your opinion. Is there anything in your article that you want to save? -- Jitse Niesen (talk) 11:46, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

No problem,in fact I read the article about Chaos theory, and I could not find anything in wikipedia about Lyapunov, although his works were very influential in this field. I decided to create an article on him, because I did not know there was already one (could not find Aleksandr Lyapunov). Hervegirod 13:55, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] P/Invoke

Hello. I created a page about blittable types in the .NET framework and I was looking for some constructive criticism or any additions or edits you might have. The reason I ask is because I saw that you contributed heavily to the P/Invoke page. Thank you for any help you might offer. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Masojus (talk • contribs) 01:52, 14 March 2007 (UTC).

No problem, I will look at it. But it will take maybe some time, as I will be on holidays next week - skying in the French Alps ;-) Hervegirod 22:42, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Two minor things

On the Platform Invocation Services page, you wrote that UINT is an alias for int. I'm afraid that's not the case: it's an alias for unsigned int, which is why it's written UINT and not INT. ;)

Also, I don't want to sound too nitpicky, but I notice you seem to have a tendency to put spaces before colons. That's not standard typographic practice in English, though, so I think it's better to just omit the space. :) - furrykef (Talk at me) 23:02, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I'm French, this is why I always forget !! Hervegirod 19:53, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Moving film pages

When moving film pages, follow Wikipedia:Naming conventions (films). They don't use (movie) after the title anymore, but (film). I already moved the Timebomb article. Keep up the good work though, and let me know if you have any questions. --Nehrams2020 19:03, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

oops, I should have known. Thanks !! Hervegirod 19:04, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Cursed band.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Cursed band.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 03:47, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

The image seems to have been replaced by a picture released on the public domain, so it is a better replacement than the previous (orphaned) one. This orphaned image now falls under the criteria for speedy deletion (as there is a valid replacement for it). Hervegirod 21:12, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Aes Dana band.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Aes Dana band.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 08:28, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] More replaceable fair-use images

  • Image:BloodTsunamiBand.jpg

Chowbok 08:41, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

In this case, contrary to the image on the Aes Dana (band) article, I will have a free image replacement available soon (image I shot myself during a gig), so I completely agree to this particular deletion. But I think (OK, it is only my point of view) that generic deletion of (still existing) band artifacts because a new free picture could be made available is a bit... humm... to much... As I said before, I completely agree to replace to old "non free" image (under fair use) as soon as a free image is available. Hervegirod 09:53, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

No worries, what triggered the copyvio alert is Swing (Java). I'm interested in what your source for this article was, though (gonna double check the copyright status of Swing (Java)). [edit] Sublimation XXIXA

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Sublimation XXIXA, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Sublimation XXIXA. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 21:19, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of Cobra Noir (band)

A tag has been placed on Cobra Noir (band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. brewcrewer (yada, yada) 23:02, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

I was not the one who created Cobra Noir information at first (just put it in a separate article), and I don't know this band, but I think that deleting an article after 5 mns is going a bit too far ;-) Hervegirod (talk) 23:09, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Am very pleased that you are French. I have a favour to ask regarding Rafale, if you have an interest? Thanks. Wittlessgenstein (talk) 00:24, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello ! Yes, I'm interested in this subject !! Hervegirod (talk) 00:59, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Thank you Hervegirod. The Rafale article currently says "On 6 December 2007 a French Air Force twin-seat aircraft... crashed... on RTL, Minister of Defence Hervé Morin stated that the cause of the crash was "pilot disorientation".[1]
There is a sound clip at this link. Unfortunately, my French is minimal. I wonder could you tell me if the Minister offers any actual "proof" of this cause or if (as it sounds tp me) he just gives an educated opinion? I have been unable to find a translated written transcript of this interview. I am not sure if the pilot was using HMD or not. Many thanks for your help! Wittlessgenstein (talk) 08:17, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Any possibility of you taking a look? Thanks. Wittlessgenstein (talk) 21:40, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] ISO document version

You seem to have a lot of focus on that Micrsoft does not support the not yet published new version of Office Open XML created during the ISO standardization even though it seems common that a new format version is not supported immediatly. I wonder why you want to put specific focus on that in the Office Open XML article?

Could you for instance name me any implementation of OpenDocument that has (proven) conformance to the ISO ODF version (so not just any version) ? (That version was approved in may 2006) Could you actually eve just find any info on which versions of ODF are currently supported by OpenOffice, Google doc, KOffice as I seem unable to find that info on the sites of the respective ODF implementations ? hAl (talk) 11:04, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

You have extensive information about the status of respective implementations here. As you see, no application is stated of having "perfect support" of ODF. However, I would have liked to have links to the results, such as errors against schemas for example, in this webpage, which is not the case for now. THis has also been asked by Alex Brown on his blog. I think he will soon provide the same type of informations he just gave on MS Office vs OOXML with OpenOffice / ODF. I will be very happy to add the results in the ODF article as soon as it is published. However, the above link is already in the ODF article. Hervegirod (talk) 11:18, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
The link you provide from the odf fellowship provides no info on wheater the ISO version is actually supported either or any version info. As OOo certainly does not conform to any version of the ODF standard (for instance not supporting a different versions of MathML 2.0 as ODF requires) it seem fairly easy to get those stars. Counting support in that way Microsoft Office 2007 would also be considered to have 5 star support for the ISO transitional version of Office Open XML hAl (talk) 15:24, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
anything that does not go into your way of viewing is bad, right ? Try to listen to what others are saying sometimes (and I'm not talking specifically about me). This is the spirit of this organization. I wrote (but obviously you did not read) : As you see, no application is stated of having "perfect support" of ODF. However, I would have liked to have links to the results, such as errors against schemas for example, in this webpage, which is not the case for now. Also your sentence As OOo certainly does not conform to any version of the ODF standard comes from nowhere. Source your claims !! Hervegirod (talk) 15:36, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of United Metal Maniacs

A tag has been placed on United Metal Maniacs requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:XtreemmusicLogo.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:XtreemmusicLogo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:33, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Apparently the article was vandalized some time ago, deleting the infobox and the label history. I readded this part (the image is not orphaned anymore now), and added a fair use rationale. Hervegirod (talk) 23:27, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Bloodlibels.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Bloodlibels.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 08:17, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
