Talk:Herding cats (phrase)

[edit] Video
Instead of linking to a film, the editor who wants to include video should create a video in under a free copyright license and host the video (in a free format (such as ogg theora)) on wikimedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Delirium of disorder (talk • contribs) 21:04, June 5, 2007.
[edit] Origin?
The BSD fortune (Unix) file contains this wonderful quote. If it's the original source or (likely, I think) its appearance in fortune(6) made the expression widespread, it should be in the article.
At Group L, Stoffel oversees six first-rate programmers, a managerial challenge roughly comparable to herding cats.

- That might merit mentioning in the article even if it wasn't the origin. Maybe in a trivia section or something.. TerraFrost 06:38, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
- My recollection is that this was first said by Kernighan or Richie, around 1975, but I haven't been able to find a reference. In fact it might have been quoted as such in the fortune file from the early 1980's, --72.209.43.154 23:40, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
