[edit] Summary

"Herkimer at the Battle of Oriskany" by artist F.C. Yohn.

Perhaps the most famous painting of the legendary battle. Although wounded, General Nicholas Herkimer rallies the Tryon County Militia at the Battle of Oriskany, 1777. I fully believe this painting is in the public domain; additionally, you may find this painting on websites, online newsletters, at federal and state parks and in countless history books pertaining to the American Revolution. I believe the painting itself is currently in the possession of the Utica Public Library.

This painting hung in the Officer's Mess of the USS Oriskany CVA 34 while the ship was in commission. I presume it was a gift at the commissioning of the ship in commemoration of the naming for the historic battle.

F.C. Yohn died in 1933. This license says life of the artist plus 100 years.
