Herzegovinans

The Herzegovinans (Hercegovci, Херцеговци; sing. Herzegovinan, Hercegovac, Херцеговац) are the people who hail from the Herzegovina region of Bosnia and Herzegovina and eastern Montenegro as well. A Herzegovinan may also go by the popular nickname of Ero. They may not in any case refer to themselves as Bosnian.
The region which is Herzegovina forms a part of the Dinaric Alps. Regardless of ethnicity, the ethnic groups which compose Herzegovina's population tend to identify as Herzegovinan at a regional rather than an ethno-religious level. The Herzegovinan community in Bosnia and Herzegovina are mostly Croats, followed by Bosniaks, Serbs, and Yugoslavs.

In the 1991 census, the part of Herzegovina situated in Bosnia and Herzegovina was recorded as having a population of 437,095 inhabitants. They were:
- Croats: 206,457 (47.2%),
- Bosniaks: 112,948 (25.8%)
- Serbs: 93,047 (21.3%)
- Yugoslavs: 18,494 (4.2%)
- All others: 6,149 (1.4%)
