Hershey Area Playhouse

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hershey Area Playhouse was founded in 1999 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. From 1999 until 2007, it was a nomadic troupe that performed more than two dozen productions in venues ranging from a tent at Hersheypark to the Hershey Volunteer Fire Department to a room at Country Meadows Retirement Community. With the generous support of Country Meadows which made a barn available on the campus, the organization embarked on a capital campaign to build its permanent home. Donations of $100,000 each from Country Meadows and The Hershey Company helped the Playhouse raise more than $1 million toward a goal of $1.6 million. The doors to its new theatre, Hershey Area Playhouse at Country Meadows, opened to a production of Thornton Wilder's Our Town, directed by Skip Becker, the founder of Hershey Area Playhouse, in April 2007. This all-volunteer community theatre relies on the support of the community and local businesses for its operations.
