Hermann Wagner

Hermann Wagner (born May 20, 1941) is a German scientist in the field of microbiology and immunology. Currently heading the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene of the Technical University of Munich, Wagner received the Bavarian order of merit for his achievements in science and medical research.

Hermann Wagner was born as third child of a teacher family in the beautiful surrounding of the black forest in Swabia, in the southern part of Germany. In 1967 he received his medical degree from the the University of Tuebingen. 1970 he and his wife decided to move to Melbourne/Australia for three years where he finished his Phd. After his return to Europe, Wagner worked with Paul Klein at the University of Mainz, before he was appointed to professor for med. Microbiology in Ulm. Since 1989 Wagner is back in South Germany in Munich.

Wagner has many fields of research interest. He firstly concentrated his science on questions of the activation of T killer cells. Since 1995 he is focusing with his work on Toll-like receptors (TLR).
