Herman Taller

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Herman Taller (5 May 1906 - June 1984) was a Romanian born doctor who promoted weight loss programs involving safflower oil and was the author of the controversial book Calories Don't Count.[1] The FDA charged that the book existed solely to promote the sales of safflower oil.[2] The issue was that the safflower oil capsules did not work in the doses recommended, which led to Taller being found guilty of mail fraud and conspiracy in 1967.[3] Despite this, the book went on to tell more than two million copies.[4]
