Herman Slater (1935 - 1992) was the author/editor of several occult books and the owner of The Warlock Shoppe, the oldest witchcraft shop in Brooklyn, New York. The Warlock Shoppe later moved to W. 19th Street in Manhattan (the Borough of New York City) and operated under the name Magickal Childe.

Slater edited The Magical Formulary Spellbook, ISBN 0-939708-00-0, and The Magical Formulary Spellbook II, ISBN 0-939708-10-8 - two well-sold witchcraft cookbooks based on the inner workings of his shop and formulas to his potions. Two books are currently in distribution, titled Magickal Formulary Spellbook Book I and Magickal Formulary Spellbook Book II. These books are sold world-wide and very respected within the witchcraft community.

Herman also wrote: Introduction to Witchcraft, The Hoodoo Bible, A Book of Pagan Rituals I & II, Pagan Rituals III, and he published the magazine Earth Religion News.

Magickal Childe functioned as a major focal point for the Neo-Pagan community in the 1970s, 1980's, and 90's and the brick and mortar store finally closed in 1999. The Magickal Childe now continues with its official website.
