[edit] History
In 1971 the then International Bible College was organized in Florence, AL. From it's beginning, the university has offered a four-year program of study emphasizing the biblical text and evangelism. In 2001 the school changed its name to Heritage Christian University. Today the mission of Heritage Christian University remains the same as it did in the beginning: to TRAIN, EDUCATE, and ENCOURAGE effective communicators of the Gospel.
[edit] Leadership
Dr. Dennis Jones is currently serving as the university President and has been for the past 17 years. He began his commitment with this school in 1971 when he enrolled in night classes at the International Bible College. In 1977 President Jones graduated with a B.A. in Bible. Since that time he has held many different positions at this school. He later went on the earn a M.A. from Murray State University in 1994. Along with leading the university, President Jones is also a Bible faculty member.
[edit] Academics
[edit] Undergraduate Program
Heritage Christian University offers a 128-hour undergraduate program leading to a bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies. All students major in Bible and may choose a minor in Biblical History, Biblical Languages, Counseling, Family Life (Youth) Ministry, Missions, New Testament, Old Testament, or Religious Education. All students participate in the Christian Ministries program as well as Campaigns.
Another opportunity is the ACE program. It stands for Accelerated College Education. This is a degree option for those students who may already have an accredited degree. It is usually a 33 hour program that relies on the general education requirements of the degree already earned.
[edit] Graduate School
The Graduate Program, after years of planning, began in the fall semester of 2000 to answer a need for advanced training expressed by many Heritage Christian alumni and to fulfill a long-time dream of Dennis Jones, Heritage Christian President. Rather than turning the University in a new direction, the program was designed to help the University continue to accomplish, even more effectively, the goals for which it was established: preparing men and women to have a part in taking the saving gospel to a lost world.
Currently, graduate students can pursue two degrees: the M.A. (Master of Arts)in New Testament or Greek, or the M.Min. (Master of Ministry) in Counseling or Preaching.
[edit] Distance Learning
Any student at Heritage Christian University has the ability to use this format of learning. Graduate and undergraduate classes are offered in one of two ways: on-line or DVD learning. This option in learning allows a student to fulfill other commitments while pursuing a ministry degree.
In the fall of 2007 Heritage Christian University partnered with Tegrity to provide on-line learning services. Currently all class are digitally recorded and available for downloading via a secured website. Weekly classes can be downloaded as a video or audio file.
