Hereditary President is the top ranking government official in the executive branch of the People's Republic of Haven, a fictional place in the Honorverse.
As the name implies the position was hereditary, although the order of succession is unknown. All hereditary presidents are members of Haven's Legislaturalist class. The holder of this office serves as both the head of state and the head of the government.
The last person to hold this title was Sidney Harris, who was assassinated on President's Day in 1905 P.D.
President's Day was a national holiday in the People's Republic of Haven in the Honorverse.
[edit] President's day
President's Day celebrated the date of the reigning hereditary president's of the People's Republic of Haven's birth. On this day the government all but shut down, so that its members of and their families could attend the party given in the president's honor. On that day, in 1905 P.D. a group of naval shuttles dropped four, five-thousand-kilo, precision guided warheads on the Presidential Palace where that year's celebration was being held--effectively decapitating the government.
