Herbert Slater
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Herbert Slater (November 11, 1881 — December 2, 1958) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break and fast-medium bowler who played for Derbyshire during the 1907 season. Slater was born in Langley Mill and died in Creswell.
Slater played in five first-class matches for the Derbyshire team, debuting in July 1907 against Nottinghamshire. Nottinghamshire won the match by an innings margin. During the next match, Slater took 2-15, his best bowling figures during his short career. While Slater's next match for Derbyshire was an emphatic win, the team slipped into a period of bad form and lost two further games with Slater in the team before he was dropped.
Derbyshire finished at the bottom of the 1907 County Championship table, and Slater was out of the team. Slater's brother, Archibald and father Henry were also first-class cricketers.
