Herbert Kegel

Herbert Kegel (29 July 1920, Dresden – 20 November 1990, Dresden) was a German conductor.
- 1935-1940: Studied conducting with Karl Böhm, and composition with Boris Blacher at the Dresden Conservatory.
- 1946-1949: Conductor in Pirna and Rostock
- 1948-1979: Associated with Leipzig Radio Orchestra and Choir
- 1960: Principal conductor: Leipzig Symphony Orchestra and Choir
- 1977-1985: Principal conductor: Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra
- 1990: Committed suicide
Herbert Kegel was married to the Italian soprano Celestina Casapietra from 1966 to 1983. Their son Björn Casapietra is active as a singer, moderator and actor.
