Her Name Is Nicole is the debut solo album by American pop/R&B singer Nicole Scherzinger, lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls.[1] After being pushed back several times, the album is still without a release date. Scherzinger is reportedly back full-time with the Pussycat Dolls. An interview with Pussycat Dolls creator Robin Antin confirmed that the Pussycat Dolls sophomore album will be released first, followed by a revised version of Her Name Is Nicole.
[edit] Background
The album will feature production from Akon, Kanye West, Macy Gray, Ne-Yo, Pharrell Williams, Polow da Don, Sean Garrett, Timbaland, and will.i.am, Kuya among others.[1][2] The-Dream, who wrote Rihanna's "Umbrella" and J. Holiday's "Bed", worked with Scherzinger on "Power's Out" which features Sting and will appear on the album.[3][4] Scherzinger had stated in an interview that she had written over 80 songs for Her Name Is Nicole.[5]
Initially slated for a 2007 release, the release date has been changed several times. After being scheduled for October 16, 2007, the date was pushed back to November 6, 2007, then November 20, 2007 due to the potential release of Jay-Z's and Chris Brown's albums.[6][7] The release date now stands at sometime in 2008 presumably due to the poor overall performance of all the singles released. Scherzinger is reported to re-record some of the songs.[8] On Amazon.com the album has a released date of May 5, 2008. UK HMV has the album down to be released on June 30, 2008, with a different cover which was later proven to be fan-made
“ | I'm just so glad I get to focus on my music and this is like a life-long dream that I've been working towards, so to be able to do that feels just really rewarding.[9] | ” |
On 12 February 2008, Scherzinger talked about the album via her official site blog but she didn't reveal the release date.
“ | ...I know you have all been waiting patiently for the release of "Her Name Is Nicole" and I want you to know that I am actually grateful the album has been pushed back. Yes, I REALLY mean that. You see, I want to make sure this album is the best I can make it because I owe that to myself, and to all of you, to release the best music I possibly can. I hope you all continue with me on this journey because it will be worth the wait.[10] | ” |
To date, Interscope and Scherzinger have not made any announcement on the official release date. A recent interview with Robin Antin confirmed that the second Pussycat Dolls album will be released first, followed by a revised solo album from Scherzinger.
[edit] Singles
An early leaked song entitled "Steam", produced by Bryan-Michael Cox, was speculated to be the first single, but Scherzinger stated that it will not appear on the album.[1] The album's first single, "Whatever U Like", was released on July 24, 2007 in Canada and the United States. The second single, "Baby Love", which was produced by and features will.i.am, was officially released on September 10, 2007.[11] Both Interscope's and Scherzinger's official websites started referring to "Baby Love" as her first single, leading to media speculation that this was prompted by the poor performance of "Whatever U Like".[12] Soon after, "Supervillian" was released as a single download on the iTunes Music Store as "Baby Love" underperformed in North America (though it charted well throughout Europe).
On November 16, 2007, Scherzinger's official website HerNameIsNicole.com uploaded four songs including "Supervillain", "Happily Never After", "Who's Gonna Love You" and "Power's Out" to allow her fans to vote for the next single from Her Name Is Nicole. However on November 28 the poll was updated and the songs "Power's Out" and "Supervillian" were removed and replaced with "Puakenikeni" and "Physical". On December 6, 2007 the poll was completely removed leading to speculation that "Puakenikeni" won because it had the most votes. This was later confirmed on December 10 via the website, and "Puakenikeni" was to be the next official single to be taken from the album, however it is yet to be fully released internationally. According to ASCAP database, the song "Just Say Yes" was given to the Pussycat Dolls.
