Her Awakening is a 1911 short predating feature-length films starring comedienne Mabel Normand and directed by D. W. Griffith. Normand portrays a lively young woman ashamed to introduce her poorly dressed mother to her elegant suitor. Normand's spirited charisma in this early comedy/drama, shot by Griffith in her second year as a screen actress, helped launch her career.
The film was exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City in 2006 as part of a one-night program about films shot in Fort Lee, New Jersey during the city's brief reign as movie capital of the United States.
