This image viewed with a 2:1 reduction.
  1. The original version was incorrectly rotated 90° clockwise (250x174, landscape), this was adapted by a simple counter-clockwise rotation in a first edit to get the correct orientation (174x250, portrait).
  2. Due to the limited original resolution, its resolution was doubled (1:2) in a second edit to 348x500, just to allow better fitting in Wikipedia articles where the image is used in animal taxoboxes with a display width between 200px and 250px (depending on Wikipedia projects), using an adaptive filter that keeps the original contrasts and colors, but avoids jitters. The image will not display very well at its current doubled resolution, but will be much better than what the Wikimedia Commons image loader produced when increasing the requested size of the image, and will display no visible change at 50% (see this image on the right). Typically, this image will display well up to 250px wide.
  3. When Commons will include an adaptative isotropic filter in its image server for the images that must be displayed at higher resolution, such edit wouldn't be necessary. Currently, Commons does not return a larger image (it only creates reduced thumbnails), but specifies the image size in HTML/CSS and let browsers grow the image (this does not work very well in browsers, because they don't have any isotropic filter in their image renderer when they scale the images; in addition, some older browers are unable to resize the image, so the requested size will not be shown).
