Henry Snapp

Henry Snapp (June 30, 1822 - November 26, 1895) was a U.S. Representative from Illinois, father of Howard Malcolm Snapp.
Born in Livonia, New York, Snapp moved with his parents to Rochester, New York, in 1825. He attended the common schools of that city. He moved to Homer, Illinois, in 1833, where he completed his common-school education. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1843 and commenced practice in Joliet, Illinois. He served as member of the State senate from 1869 to 1871.
Snapp was elected as a Republican to the Forty-second Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Burton C. Cook and served from December 4, 1871, to March 3, 1873. He declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1872. He resumed the practice of his profession in Joliet, Illinois, where he died on November 26, 1895. He was interred in Oakwood Cemetery.
