Hengchun (Traditional Chinese: 恆春鎮; Taiwanese: Hêng-chhun; literally Eternal Spring Town) of Pingtung County is the southernmost Township in the Taiwan island of Republic of China. Hengchun is also the only urban township in the southern part of Pingtung County. Hengchun has a land area of 136.7630 square kilometer and has a population of 31,288 as of December 2007.

Hengchun is the entry way to Kenting National Park, the southernmost National Park in the country. With pristine beaches and a vibrant tourist industry, the Hengchun area often attracts more travellers than local residents. Hengchun town was once surrounded by a city wall and while the wall is no longer entire, the four city gates remain intact. On weekends, the streets of nearby Kenting are filled with cars and tour buses, making it a giant parking lot.

[edit] 2006 earthquake

In 2006, an earthquake with an epicenter off the southwest coast of Taiwan occurred. It caused damages to many houses in Hengchun.
