Henderson railway station is a major station on the Western Line of the Auckland railway network. It is near the major shopping centre, Westfield Henderson.

[edit] Major upgrade

A major upgrade of the station was completed on 24 October 2006. The new station opened on 2 November 2006, 125 years after the railway first reached Henderson. The new station has an island platform and a new enclosed glass footbridge connecting it to Henderson mall and the Waitakere City Council office buildings[1].

[edit] Station name

It was proposed that the station be re-named Waitakere Central when it was upgraded because it is integrated with the Waitakere City Council's new Civic Building. Some people said that the name should be left as it is since it is the name of the local area. It was claimed that there would be confusion with Waitakere, the current terminus of the Western Line.

The change was not accepted as there was some opposition to the name change, but the station has Waitakere Central as a subtitle.
