Henare Tomoana

Henare Tomoana (1820-30s - 1904) was a New Zealand Māori Chief from the Hawkes Bay (Heretaunga) area in the North Island, of Ngati Kahungunu and Ngati Te Whatu-i-apiti tribal lineage.

He was renowned as a military leader in the New Zealand War against Te Kooti, newspaper publisher and one of the first Māori politicians, holding the seat of Western Maori for six years and later being appointed a member of the Legislative Council.
