[edit] Rzewski

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

Are you really Fred Rzewski? If so, hello from a former student of yours.

You might want to put the copyleft note on the article's talk page, which is the conventionally accepted place for such commentary. I'll do it myself in a bit, should you not return soon.

Once again, welcome to the world of copyleft and Wiki. Antandrus 17:10, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Ah, good to know.  :-) I wondered because you seemed to have left a signed comment by the man himself. He was a very fine teacher.
Hope you enjoy yourself on Wikipedia! It's a fun place. Antandrus (talk) 14:53, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Did you know?

Welcome to Wikipedia. Well done for spotting such an important omission as Stevenson… I was amazed that there wasn't already an article when I spotted that you'd just created one, so I extended it somewhat and nominated it for did you know. I find that collaboration, and the picking-up of other peoples' ideas, is what makes Wikipedia so appealing!

I'm always delighted to see someone else editing in the classical music sections. Pretty much anything you could hope to read about editing Wikipedia is linked at the Wikipedia:Community portal. (The Wikipedia:Simplified Ruleset is a good overview, though.) I find the five pillars particularly helpful. Happy editing!

In fact, now I look more closely I see that you're returning after an absence - apologies if all that bumph above is old news! See you around. --RobertGtalk 08:55, 26 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Area 19,WinPcap, and others

Hi. Area 19 looks to be a copy of http://www.area51zone.com/a19.shtml Do you have permission from the copyright owner to licence this information under the GFDL? -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 19:26, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

I also notice that Winpcap is a copy of http://www.winpcap.org/. Do you have permission to licence that under the GFDL? -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 19:53, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

Do you have permission for these too? How many more articles have you copied from elsewhere into wikipedia? -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 19:58, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

In that case I'm afraid they'll all have to be deleted. We can't rewrite them in place either, as the versions which violate the authors' copyrights are still in the article history. The one(s) that are partially copies have to go to, I'm afraid. Everything that goes into wikipedia has to be completely the work of the contrubutor, or licenced from the copyright owner. A quote from a book might be considered fair use, but not a large block of text, I'm afraid. I'll take care of marking them for deletion in the correct manner. In future, please only submit stuff you've actually written yourself; copying stuff into wikipedia only makes for headaches, and opens us all to the possibility of expensive legal action and very bad publicity. Are there any other acticles you've also copied from websites? -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 20:15, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Tibet-related edits

While I wish Tibet was independent, and I think it should be, the simple fact is that it is not. Adding Tibet to lists of sovereign states is consequently inappropriate. Justin (koavf) 01:26, July 23, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Sorabji

Ah, ok. If you have a more specific reference/source it would be good to at least add it to the article's talk page. (While Orage's circle formed a major part of Sorabji's early career and work so far as I know, the only mention I'd so far seen of him was, indeed, in the book I referred to.) It's good to see an article on Ronald Stevenson, also, though I should try to add something on the connection between him, MacDiarmid, Sorabji, ... - ... hrm! Schissel : bowl listen 03:52, July 31, 2005 (UTC)

I removed your comment "He received private lessons because his addiction to autonomy prevented him from entering a school." from Sorabji's article because I don't know where you got this information. Also, the information seems to be stuck arbitrarily in the article. I realize this article needs a lot of work but we do not need to make the situation worse. I am planning on starting an effort to improve the Sorabji article if you're interested in helping, please let me know. Ryguillian talk 03:41, October 29, 2005 (UTC)

Sorry it has taken me this long to get back to you - missed the significance of part of your note is all I can say really. Greetings! No, actually I have never played anything by Rzewski, excepting something I did with a group of others in a graduate seminar he taught. I wish I could play The People United, but alas it's too hard for me.  :-) Antandrus (talk) 16:17, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] 2003 invasion of Iraq

Hi there, when trying to go over the discussion at 2003 invasion of Iraq I saw it has become a big mess. If I see it correctly there was a conflict between an anon and others and now the page has been blocked. I think the anon had a point that an encyclopedia article about any military conflict should not be written exclusively by three members of one the conflicting parties, in this case Pookster11, Swatjester, and Dawgknot who according to this comment all belong to the US military. I therefore suggest to get more people into the boat, that should take the wind out of the sails of bias allegations. As I saw you also edited on that page, would you be willing to help out? [edit] Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising

The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. Until the situation becomes more clear, I believe the group should still have a place in the Wikipedia namespace. Sincerely, Tfine80 00:33, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

I understand your concern, but could you place a link to these sources next to your comment on that talk page? Furthermore, several criteria must be met, and you should comment on that with links to i.e. HRW, that substantiate your opinion.Holland Nomen Nescio 16:29, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

I'm calling out a posse, to fight for freedom of choice, to fight all those who think that only their opinion's right, template:user fsm was speedy deleted by an administrator without any cause or even discussion, I'm therefore putting it up for undeletion since people have put a jihad out against opinions in userboxes. As you were one of many people using the template, I'm trying to rally you into the posse. If you think the template should be returned to active status, put in a vote at Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Userbox_debates#template:user_fsm. Janizary 04:26, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps title it Drinkpedia or Bar Encyclopedia, in order to not confuse people into thinking it's only Wiskey? The only thing, it must not be deemed to be promoting alcohol, that's against Google AdSense's policy, the method which funds Wikicities. [edit] Billingham Bags

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Billingham Bags, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. [edit] Copyright violation in CannaTrade

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on CannaTrade, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because CannaTrade is unquestionably copyright infringement, and no assertion of permission has been made.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting CannaTrade, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit] AfD nomination of List of political composers

An editor has nominated List of political composers, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of political composers and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:59, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Don't hesitate, delete

Hi. Thank you for the edit summary for this edit of yours. This appeared in my watchlist as Fortis is one of the various articles on watch companies that I've recently taken a too-quick look at and from which I've removed obvious garbage or tagged claims as needing references. (Clearly there's something about expensive wristwatches that causes grown men to lose their critical faculties and recycle PR gibberish.) I hadn't bothered to google for that particular factoid; you did, and you found it on a retailer's page. Good, thank you, but next time you find something similar, please remove it.

Further, this is a copyright violation of stuff that wouldn't be worth copying even if it had been marked "copyleft under GFDL". Pretty obviously, retailers want to move product, and they'll uncritically recycle whatever PR pap is sent to them by the manufacturer or distributor. I don't say that worldlux.com is either lying or redistributing others' lies, but I also have no particular reason to believe them.

A problem with the so-called "luxury goods" industry is that people whose interest in it isn't morbid/sociological are likely to have been driven gaga. They're helped on their way by newspaper hacks and others who cover such stuff and are themselves likely to have been deprived of their critical faculties by invitations to "exclusive" (non-) events and so forth -- even (if they're lucky) outright junkets -- and the pressure to write "news" that will do nothing to decrease revenue from advertising. But I suppose that somewhere there are intelligent books about these baubles that aren't content just to witter away about "mystique", "grand complications", etc etc. -- Hoary (talk) 01:37, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Religious Jokes

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Religious Jokes, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Religious Jokes. hateless 03:55, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
