[edit] The object

  • To clear out albums that have been released but are still tagged with {{future album}} or Category:Unreleased albums.
  • To delete articles for upcoming albums that are poorly sourced or are so short on verifiable content that the information would be better off left in the artists' own articles, at least until the album is released or receives more media coverage.

[edit] Things to check for in Unreleased album articles

  • Per WP:ALBUMS, there shouln't be a release date in the infobox in the "Released" field until the album is actually released. If there's a release date in the infobox but not in the body of the article, move it into the article instead of just deleting it. Similarly, in the chronology section of the infobox, substitute ([[To be determined|TBD]]) for the year of release.
  • The Unreleased albums category is included in the {{future album}} tag, so if [[Category:Unreleased albums]] is at the bottom of the article, remove it.
  • Boldly remove any and all rumors, speculation or unsourced song titles, producers, and guest artists. However, if Rolling Stone, for example, says that such-and-so might be on the record, that's OK to include, as long as it's properly sourced.
  • Make sure any release date is sourced, if not add {{fact}}.
  • If the release date given in the article has passed, check to see if the album has been released. Amazon.com is a handy source; just make sure that it says "Available now", occasionally albums that get pushed back indefinitely retain their listing (example)
  • If there's very little sourced content, little to no media coverage, and the release date is not in the relatively near future (or unverifiable) feel free to prod the article. For good follow-through, "watch" the articles you prod and the take them to AfD if the prod is removed.
    • Check the history first to see if the article's already been prod-ed (if so, take it to AfD), and check the talk page to see if it has already been though an AfD.
  • If the article ends up being deleted, check what links to that article. Follow the links and either de-link or remove completely. I'll usually leave the name of the album in relevant articles but delete it from discographies—something that hasn't been released yet shouldn't be listed in a discography.
