Helpless Automaton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Helpless Automaton is the fifth song on the album Business As Usual by the popular Australian band Men at Work.[1] The song concerns a human who is infatuated with another human, but feels as though frigid, computer-like thoughts and emotions are hindering romantic progress. [2] It is the only song on the album written solely by the keyboard/flute/saxophone player Greg Ham, who sings the song.[3] Helpless Automaton features a catchy beat and melody as well as a guitar solo at the end by guitarist Ron Strykert. The song, released in 1982 along with the rest of the album, was never released as a single.[4]
