Helo Cliffs

Helo Cliffs (cliffs at c.3525 m on the north rim of the summit caldera of Mount Erebus, Ross Island. The name derives from a nearby USCG HH-52A helicopter (CG 1404) which lost power and crashed while enroute from McMurdo Station to Cape Bird, January 9, 1971. The four crew and passengers were not injured, but the helicopter was abandoned because of its location.
