Helmut Piirimäe

Helmut Piirimäe (born September 8, 1930) is prominent Estonian historian. He is professor emeritus of University of Tartu and honorary doctor of University of Uppsala.

Piirimäe has researched Estonian history under Swedish Empire in 17th Century, but also Enlightenment in 18th Century, especially the French Revolution.

Helmut Piirimäe is married to art historian Krista Piirimäe. Their two sons Pärtel Piirimäe and Kaarel Piirimäe are also historians.
