The 71st Airborne Infantry Brigade was established after the reorganization of the 71st Infantry Brigade. Briefly, the 71st regiment was established in Drama in October 1940. It took part in the World War II along the borders of Bulgaria, during the German invasion in 1941, possessing the sector of Paranesti, where it won many battles. Afterwards when the Germans occupied the country, the Brigade was dissolved and reorganized in April 1945.
