Hell's Pit is the ninth studio album by Insane Clown Posse. Released on August 31, 2004, the album is the second part of the sixth Joker's Card, The Wraith, written with the opposite intent of its counterpart, Shangri-La, Hell's Pit is intended to illustrate the horrors of hell itself.
[edit] Album information
On November 5, 2002, when ICP released Shangri-La, they offered an explanation of the album, stating that it was designed purely for their loyal followers and family, called Juggalos.[citation needed] This album did not see much airplay.
This CD is the final chapter of the Joker's Card series and closes the body of Joker's Cards for the Insane Clown Posse. This album was an anomaly in that it never mentions the word "Juggalo", because as Violent J stated at the 2002 Gathering of the Juggalos "I don't want to see one muthafuckin' Juggalo in Hell's Pit".[citation needed]
Many of the songs feature Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope fictitiously dying, to be sent to Hell. Hell is depicted in the album as a place void of all hope and peace, where those who do not atone for their sins and follow the ways of Shangri-La will presumably be sent upon their death. The tone and style of this album is a marked departure from previous efforts by this band.
The included DVD video is a music video for the song "Bowling Balls", with something of a horror movie approach. The plotline is very simple: Violent J and his brother Shaggy 2 Dope own a bed and breakfast. Two teenage girls experience car problems near the establishment. They call for help from some of their friends and wait at the B&B. After everyone shows up, they start dying one by one. In the end, everyone other than Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope die. It is intended to resemble a humorous low-budget horror movie.
This release comes in two versions.
- Version 1 includes a bonus DVD with 2-D and 3-D versions of the mini-movie Bowling Balls.
- Version 2 includes a bonus DVD with the video for Real Underground Baby. It also includes footage from the Bootlegged in Denver concert.
"The Witch" that's mentioned throughout the album, is the Devil.[citation needed]
The track "C.P.K.'s" stands for "Crooked Preacher Killaz'", but according to InsaneClownPosse.com, it was renamed so the album could be available in all record stores.[citation needed]
An unreleased track by Esham which features Violent J called "Ice Cold" has the exact same beat as "Sedatives".[citation needed]
On the track "The Juggla", on Carnival of Carnage, the song mentions "the night of the axe, the night of the .44". "Night of the Axe" was track #9 on the first Joker's Card, "Carnival of Carnage", therefore they recorded "Night of the .44" for the last Joker's Card, "Hell's Pit".
"Burning Up" was originally called "Burning Lovely" before the album was released.[citation needed]
"Bowling Balls" samples "Security of the First World" by Public Enemy.[citation needed]
"Real Underground Baby" is one of the Insane Clown Posse's longest songs, clocking in at over twelve and a half minutes long and features samples of songs from all the other Joker’s Card albums, from Carnival of Carnage all the way to The Wraith.
Although continuing from the song after it "The Witch", In the song "Night of The 44" there is a message at the end of the song that says "Is the devil, the witch is everywhere, some of us have woken up in the middle of the night with the witch sitting on our chests taking the air from our lungs, Fuck the witch", and it continues to the next song "The Witch", which in the beginning of that song it says "The Witch" backwards.
"Bowling Balls" has the same drum beat as "Justify My Love" by Madonna.[citation needed]
In the mini-movie, Violent J states that there isn't any other establishment within 20 miles. But when Amy's friends walk into the b&b, a street, a bar, and a mini cooper can be seen right outside the door. Along with other mistakes while running Shaggy over with the cars.
The album is the first to feature an "Extreme Parental Advisory" label rather than the traditional "Parental Advisory" label. This is probably due to the harsher, and more graphic nature of the album, as well as the included DVD.

[edit] Message
This album completes our Dark Carnival story. Now, for the rest of your lives, we invite you to sit back and take it all in. We hope each Joker's Card will live on forever. To finally complete what we started 13 years ago is amazing, yet we don't want it to end. But it must. The story is now completed exactly how it was meant to be. We listened with the spirits and brought forth all 6 Joker's Cards. We believed in each one as they arrived, and tried to spread its message as far and wide as possible. We delivered, and as life went on, each Card's Era provided us with incredible memories and stories that will last forever. The fact is, each Joker's Card is somebody's favorite, somewhere, and that's enough to give them life. They will be there for you all to call upon, for the rest of eternity. From Carnival of Carnage to Hell's Pit, may all 6 Joker's Cards rest comfortably in time. Thank you all for listening.
