Heliotropium foertherianum (Tree Heliotrope, Velvet Soldierbush or Octopus Bush), is a species of plant in the Boraginaceae family. It is native to tropical Asia, including southern China, Madagascar, northern Australia, and most of the atolls and high islands of Micronesia and Polynesia.
The tree is small, it is not very good for timber, but it is rare in some places where the wood is used as firewood for beach barbecues.
[edit] Taxonomy
Originally published as Tournefortia argentea, it was transferred to Argusia argentea, and remained under that name until recently. It was recently restored to Tournefortia before being transferred into Heliotropium under a new name in 2003.[1][2]
