Heli Attack 2
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Heli Attack 2 is an Internet game created by Squarecircleco. Players take the role of a soldier in a jungle-type environment, and must take down as many helicopters, or "helis", as possible before the player dies, using a wide array of weapons. Points gained were directly proportional to the number of helis killed, but were gained directly proportional to damage done (with a bonus for using special weapons) and averaged out by having the last heli die with you. Every 3 helis destroyed would give players a weapon or an extra (see below) or if the player had destroyed the heli from above (using a hyperjump) a random weapon smaller in quantity was gained. Another sequel was created to it, Heli Attack 3. Heli Attack 2, due to its popularity and fun gameplay, was voted Miniclip's 2003 Game of the Year, and Flashkit.com's Most Addicting Game of 2003. Also due to its exceeding popularity, it was released for Symbian-enabled mobile devices, such as cellular phones.

[edit] Weapons
In Heli Attack 2 it is impossible to kill yourself without using the suicide (K) key. Thus, explosives are harmless to the player. However, with some weapons you can 'push' yourself up by shooting at a helicopter whilst above it in a hyperjump. This is particularly relevant concerning the A Bomb. The weapons available in this game are as follows:
- Submachine gun: This is your weakest and base weapon. Naturally, it has unlimited ammo and is not very powerful, 30 shots to kill a heli. This is made up for its rapid re-fire rate. This weapon IS a sub-machine gun, and is replaced in Heli Attack 3 by the pistol.
- AkimboMac10's: Fires two bullets that are slightly less powerful than the SMG (if you compare just one of the two from the Mac10's shot). Seventeen shots for a kill if you hit the heli with both bullets. Fifty in a cartridge. By this calculation a MAC-10 bullet takes 34 shots to kill a helicopter while an SMG takes 30.
- Shotgun: Releases five shots which spread out in a cone. Most efficient at close range. Four shots to a kill and fourteen to a cartridge.
- Shotgun Rockets: An odd cross between a rocket launcher and a shotgun. Fires three projectiles that spread in a similar cone to that of a shotgun but look like rockets (however they move slightly faster). Three shots to a kill and eight per cartridge.
- Grenade Launcher: Tosses grenades. Shot trajectories are parabolic, hence, from ground level these cannot reach the helis. Takes four shots to kill a heli. Twelve to a cartridge.
- RPG: Shoots rocket-propelled grenades. Takes four shots to kill a heli. Grenades appear to hover before accelerating to an incredible speed. Ten to a cartridge.
- Rocket Launcher: Shoots a slow moving projectile. The rocket may miss the heli if it zooms off screen. Three shots to kill a heli and eight to a cartridge.
- Seeker Launcher: Shoots a rocket similar to that from the rocket launcher; however, it will follow the helis. Three shots to kill a heli, six to a cartridge. Very useful when you start to feel tired because no matter where you aim it's almost a guaranteed hit.
- Firemines: When the fire button is clicked you lay down a mine where you stand. It bursts out a pillar of fire for approximately three seconds. The fire can pass through cover. Two to kill a heli. Three to a cartridge.
- Flamethrower: A nifty weapon that appears in all 3 games. More damage if close up, and can kill a heli in one hyper jump if done right, but if done wrong takes more than half the cartridge for a single kill. One-hundred fifty shots to a cartridge. Reload time virtually nonexistent to simulate a stream of fire.
- Railgun: This futuristic looking weapon shoots a large green laser which moves instantaneously across the screen then fades away. The round can pass through cover. Two shots to a kill and three to a cartridge.
- A-Bomb: Considered one of the best weapons in the game. One shot will kill a heli and it reloads at a fair speed;however, the bomb travels incredibly slow. Most players fix this by hyper jumping and shooting the rocket right on the heli for an instant kill. Two shots to a cartridge.
- Grapple Cannon: This is the only other weapon that will one hit a heli. It is an improvement on the A-Bomb by having a speedy projectile but on the down side it takes the longest to reload of any weapon.
'Crates' and their contents are identified by their colour-coded type.
- Yellow; Rocket type
- Purple; Grenade Type
- Red; Fire type
- Green; shotgun type (including shotgun rockets)
- Blue; SMG type (this class only includes the MAC 10s)
- Grey; Special (Grapple cannon, Railgun and a-bomb)
- White with yellow arrow; Powerup
- White with red cross; health pack. These appear every 15, 30, 60, 120 helis etc
Also, some crates flick rapidly between sorts resulting in a random weapon.
[edit] Extras
The extras available in this game include:
- Health Pack: Heals you of a maximum of two bullet wounds. Comes on 15 kills, 30 kills, 60 kills, 120 kills...
- TriDamage: Gives you 3x more damage potential than normal. Rocket launchers, Seeker launchers, and Shotgun Rockets are one hit kills now, and should be used frequently. While the RailGun will also kill in one shot, it is wasteful.
- Predator Mode: Gives you an upgraded RailGun (called the Shoulder Cannon) that kills enemies in one shot. You become nearly invisible (but still hard to see) until hit by a bullet (enemies will fire randomly.) The only downside is that the screen turns photo-negative colors, so it's kind of hard to see what's going on.
- JetPack: Gives you the ability to fly. Destroying an enemy in midair with this has the same effect as killing an enemy during a hyperjump (see below) (although that effect is currently under debate.)
- Invulnerability: Makes you invincible.
- TimeRift: Slows time down for everything except reload time and movement time.
[edit] Powers
- TimeDistort: Slows time down for everything. (bullets move slower, you move slower, enemy moves slower.)
- HyperJump: You jump significantly higher than a normal jump. Destroying a heli while HyperJumping gives the player a random weapon award, although the ammunition included is less than the package when dropped from a heli. As a result of this, smaller ammunition weapons, such as the A-Bomb, won't be found as a random weapon (It should be noted that if you hyper jump form the ground on your way back down you can make another normal jump, as if you double jumped).
- Double Jump: Press the jump button again while in the air to perform a double jump and get higher.
- Suicide(K-key): Ends the game as if your health has been reduced to zero.
[edit] Enemies
The heli is the only enemy. Just like Heli Attack, there are an unlimited number of helis. There is only one level in the traditional sense, but if you get enough points the game tells you "level up", which seems to refer to an increase in difficulty (helis fire more rapidly making it harder to jump between their shots) rather than an increase in your abilities.
[edit] Glitches
- If you take an atomic bomb launcher and fire it at the overhang, (while you are underneath it) you should explode and go underground. The only known way to come out of the ground is to hyper jump. It is impossible to be hit with enemy fire when underground.
- Similar but very rare: If you kill a heli while on a hyper jump with an A-Bomb and land you will go underground and only be able to shoot with the RailGun, grapple cannon, rocket launcher, RPG, and grenade launcher (note that these are the only ones known, there are likely others). While underground the helis can still hit you. To get out move around and jump/hyperjump in the right place.
- If you go all the way to the end of the level, and stand under the overhang, there is a glitch where you can never get hit. What you do is you stand under the overhang, but don't touch the wall on the left hand side. Next hold the left button down, and just as the soldier touches the wall, hold down the "down" key. Keep the down key pressed in order to remain crouching, this will make you un-hittable. From there, you can fire the Rail gun, the Grapple Cannon, the A Bomb launcher, Shotgun Rockets, and Grenades. You can also shoot the Seeker Launcher if you shoot it at an angle. to get out, simply press down (to do go on top of the overhang) or press left to go below the overhang. You can also hyperjump out of there.
- Occasionally when a heli flies off and returns, it will be entered in the tally at the top of the screen as having been killed. However, you will get no points for this "kill." It is unknown whether this affects when you get the next Health Pack.
- If you get the bonus pack "Invulnerable", you cannot use health packs even though they are dropped from helis, no matter how many helis you kill.
- In Internet Explorer, click and hold the left mouse button down and drag off the game screen (and then let go of the mouse button). If done correctly the 'gun' you have will continually shoot without the need to hold down the mouse button. If the mouse button is re-clicked the gun will stop shooting.
- If you get a kill that results in a weapon crate being dropped on the top-right of the map, the crate will sometimes become lodged in an invisible crevice. You can reach this crevice by hyperjumping, however.
- You can get a score of -1 which is counted as the highest score in the high score list, though it is not known how to do this.
