Helen Miller is the Iowa State Representative from the 49th District and is an assistant majority leader. She has served in the Iowa House of Representatives since 2002.

Miller attended South Side High School (now Malcolm X Shabazz High School) in Newark, NJ. She graduated from Howard University in Washington, DC with a Bachelors in Business Administration and was initiated as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She later earned a Master of Science in Library Sciences from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. She earned her Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
She has been a member of the Iowa State Bar Association and the District of Columbia Bar Association.[citation needed]

Miller currently serves on several committees in the Iowa House - the Agriculture committee; the Economic Growth committee; the Environmental Protection committee; International Relations and the Veterans Affairs committee. Her political experience includes serving as an assistant minority leader in the Iowa House (2005 - 2006) and an assistant majority leader (2007 to present).
Miller was re-elected in 2006 with 7,709 votes, running unopposed. [1]
