Helen Bradley MBE (1900–1979) was an artist born in the village of Lees, Lancashire, England. Helen was born at 58 High Street, Lees on November 20, 1900. She died on July 19, 1979 shortly before she was due to be honoured with an MBE.
She painted mainly with her hands and fingers. Her oil paintings vividly depict Lancashire life as it was between 1900 and 1910. As popular in the United States as in the United Kingdom, her paintings now fetch tens of thousands at auction. A series of books illustrated with these naive paintings topped the bestseller lists in the early 1970s.
Much of her work can be seen in Gallery Oldham, a state-of-the-art art gallery complex found in Oldham which serves the local and wider communities.
