Heikki Westerinen

Heikki Markku Julius Westerinen (born 27 April 1944)[1] is a Finnish chess player, born in Helsinki. He became a national master in 1960 at age 16, and earned the FIDE titles of International Master in 1967 and Grandmaster in 1975. Westerinen won the Finnish Championship in 1965, 1966, 1968, and 1970. He has competed in the Chess Olympiads of 1962, 1964, 1966, 1968, 1970, 1972, 1974, 1976, 1978, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1996, and 2006.[2] Westerinen's best tournament results include 3rd at Berlin 1971, 2nd= at Olso 1973, 1st at Sant Feliu de Guixols 1973, and 1st at Dortmund 1975. His style is described as original and combinative.[3]
