Hefekranz
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hefekranz, which literally means "Yeast Wreath", is a sweet bread from southern Germany. It is a Swabian variant of the Swiss Zopf and is also known, depending on the region, as a "Hefezopf" or a "Kranzes".
It is made from sugar, flour, butter, eggs and yeast, and sometimes added with raisins or almonds.
The Hefekranz is characteristically folded into pleats or braids before baking, and then shaped either as an oblong log, or curved into a circle.
