Hedesunda

Hedesunda is a former municipality in Sweden which nowadays is a village and a parish in the southern part of Gävle Municipality. Urban area in Hedesunda is the village Brunn. Brunn and its surroundings has about 1.100 citizens. Total population in the area that earlier was the municipality is about 2800. The largest population ever, was back in the beginning of the twentieth century with as much as 5 000 - 5 100 citizens. After 1960:s "wiping out of small farmers" is the population rising now in the beginning of the twenty-first century. The landscape is low-lying with forest, moors and peat bog.

The surroundings and the county with riverbays gives opportunity for fishing, recreation and outdoor life near Dalälven. This promote the new return of people to the area. Dalälven is part of the Top 10 fishing Sweden.
In the urban area of Hedesunda,Brunn is a reconstruction of a former banked silver mine the latest occurrence. The project is supported with grants from the European uniun. Preliminary studies have dated the age to as old as from the thirteenth to the fourteenth century. The project is namned Brunns Silfvergrufva.
The short distances from Uppsala and Västerås makes it easy to reach Hedesunda and Dalälven with car in about an hour. Traveltime from the Swedish national airport Arlanda is about 90 minutes.
Area Ön is a lengthy island who is a part of a boulder ridge (esker). Ön is the culture center in the area and it is located near Dalälven and has bridges at both ends. If you enter from south you will reach Ön by turning right 10 kilometer after Tärnsjö at the national road 67 and drive towards Söderfors. I the north of Hedesunda you enter the national road 67 again and you drive the road towards Valbo. In Valbo you can find the largest shopping centre in the area. You can also reach Hedesunda by driving the European road number 4 and on a level at Tierp north you go towards Söderfors.
Ön is a part of a many 100 km long esker. A esker is a long, winding ridges of stratified sand and gravel which occur in glaciated and formerly glaciated regions of Europe and North America.
At Ön you find a dancing place, small bays, open landscape and to sum up you find really nice nature here. You can also find a camping groundHedesunda Camping with places for caravans, tents. They also have cabins. At the camping spot you can reach the beach called Sandsnäsbadet.

Hedesunda has ancient monument continuously from circa 3500 year B.C. from Neolitisk time and Stone Age until today. Especially interesting is the findings after early description of iron. The oldest documentation is written on old runic stones and a very rare picture-stone (cut outs) from year 970 A.C. They usually do not appear to the north of lake Mälaren. In Hedesunda you can also find Gästriklands only ancient castle.
On pergament or paper is written that the archbishop Nils Allesson visited Hedesunda parish year 1302. Other early document is "Svarta-brevet" from year 1402. This is notes about demarcation. This early boundary documents bring on 16 small villages.
The parish registration from Hedesunda is diligent writing and there is more than 30.000 peoples registered. This treasure have been used to make books for genealogize who contain two parts of each 900 pages. The latest was printed in 1997.
